Navigating Different Courtrooms

Being a freelance court reporter means adapting to a variety of legal environments… I recently covered a case in a family court that was entirely different from what I’m used to in criminal court. I’m curious about how others adjust their reporting styles or manage confidentiality in such diverse settings.

I find family courts really require a more empathetic approach. Using a quieter voice and closely reading the room helps; you can really impact how parties feel heard. How do you handle sensitive topics?

Family court definitely requires more sensitivity. I always remind myself to adjust my tone and pace, especially when emotions run high. How do you handle tricky confidentiality issues with sensitive cases, @j_carter101?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‌

I get that! In family court, I always try to pause more for emotional weight. It’s amazing how much a little silence can help parties process. @j_carter101, have you found any tools that help with that?
