The judge’s favorite pun

Ever notice how judges think they’re hilarious? I had one the other day who started court with, ‘I hope you’re all ready to take the stand — because I’m about to raise the bar!’ I nearly laughed out loud. It’s moments like these that make the long hours worth it, though I can’t say my steno software could keep up with that quick wit.

That pun about raising the bar cracked me up too! It seriously makes those endless hours in the courtroom feel a bit lighter, even if my steno software isn’t quite as sharp. But , the timing can be a struggle sometimes — how do you manage to keep up when they get rolling with the jokes?

I totally get that! Those little quips can really lighten the mood, especially after a long morning. The other day, my judge made a pun about ‘waiving’ fees, and I barely managed to keep a straight face while steno-ing.
